LIGHT CONSTRUCTION PUTS THE SPOTLIGHT ON NOVA VICTORIA

A striking and modern city campus now rises up close to Buckingham Palace, between Victoria Street and Bressenden Place. Nova Victoria is the revitalization of Victoria Square, designed as a vital, up-and-coming place where people can live and work, shop, relax and enjoy. With its central location and direct connection to Victoria Station, one of the city’s most important interchanges, Nova is one of the most attractive architectural developments of recent times in the capital city. The suspension lamps by Carl Stahl Architecture floating over the spaces between the buildings are a highlight in the truest sense of the word.

Exclusive city district

With a crisscross of broad thoroughfares, the five buildings form an architecturally sophisticated ensemble. They house modern offices, luxurious apartments with a view of the royal gardens, as well as retail outlets, cafés and restaurants, all with an air of the exclusive. The confident, modern architecture is the result of the collaboration of several renowned architectural offices. PLP Architecture from London was responsible for the master plan of the new city district.

Illuminated promenade

Between the north and the south building, a remarkable light construction showcases the thoroughfare with its cafés and restaurants in a novel way. Carl Stahl Architecture developed a carrier structure, stretching between the buildings,which consists of I-SYS stainless steel cables in combination with LED suspension lamps. These ensure individual, changeable light moods and can be addressed directly via DMX. The carrier ropes with a diameter of 16 millimeters cross to create a grid pattern measuring 750 by 750 millimeters. Just short of 700 lights with a diameter of 80 millimeters are attached to the supporting structure at different lengths. The 12-meter expanse between the façades appears to have waves due to the different light lengths – the perfect stage for creative light designs. Carl Stahl ARC  concealed the technology upon which the installation is based: The data cables are elegantly routed through attractive stainless steel tubes. The lighting scenario is maintenance-friendly: The LED suspension lamps each with an illuminous power of 5.1 Watts and 165 lumens can be exchanged individually if required.
